‘We’ve shown we’re united and focused’

Nine Premier League fixtures remaining, 27 points to play for and four points off the Champions League places with a game in hand.

It’s not going to be easy but, after returning to our free-flowing best in the final half an hour against West Ham United, Arsene Wenger is expecting plenty more twists and turns in the race for European football next season.

“That’s a little bit of the modern world,” he said. “All the conclusions are always definite, but sport is about your next performance. It’s down to you to change things and what it is to be professional is basically to focus on what is important and that means performance.

“We are in a position that is not very comfortable at the moment because it’s not where we want to be. But it has only one positive thing: we know exactly what we need to do, go into the next game and win it. So the line of contact is very clear.

“Overall I think we had of course a hiccup in recent weeks and what is important now is for us to move on, focus again, keep the way we want to play football in mind and give absolutely everything in every game.

“We came out of a very difficult period and what we have shown is that we are united and focused and determined to do things right again. That was questioned for a while and I think we gave the right response. We have to show that focus now until the end of the season. There’s still a lot to fight for. That is what’s at stake basically.”
