Ox - Giroud's got that in his locker

When people ask Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain where he was when Olivier Giroud scored that scorpion kick, he will be able to say that he had one of the best seats in the house.

Looking on from the bench, the England international watched his team-mate open the scoring against Crystal Palace with a stunning piece of improvisation, and was just as amazed to see the ball hit the back of the net as the 60,000 fans inside Emirates Stadium.

“It was unbelievable,” the 23-year-old told Arsenal Player. “It’s just one of those things you might see every five seasons, if you’re lucky. Other than that, you’ll see them in various different leagues on Instagram and on highlights shows.

“It’s purely instinct. He’d already run past the ball so the only thing he could do was that, to try and get something on the ball and it’s hit off his big size 11 heel and gone in the top corner off the bar. It was an unbelievable finish and all credit to Olivier.

“He does try things like that quite often. I’ve seen him over the years do a lot of finishes like that. I remember one away at Crystal Palace, the volley where it was kind of behind him. To be fair there’s been quite a few goals, even his volley at Sunderland away this season.

“He pulls off a lot of goals where the ball’s in an awkward position and he manages to wrap his foot around it and finish it off and that one was just ridiculous, the scorpion kick. He proves that he has finishes like that in his locker and that’s the best one I’ve ever seen.”
