Wojciech Szczesny kicked off his season at Roma with a 4-0 win against Udinese in Serie A. Diego Perotti scored two penalties in the second half, while Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah also struck to put the Italian side top of the league.
Jon Toral was also handed his first start for Granada in La Liga, but could not help his side from drawing 1-1 against Villarreal. Samu Castillejo opened the scoring for the visitors just past the hour mark, before Ezequiel Ponce equalised moments later.
Stefan O’Connor made his first appearance for MVV Maastricht as a late substitute in their 2-1 win against NAC Breda. Dan Crowley was also in action, coming on as a substitute in Oxford United’s dramatic 2-1 win against Peterborough.
