Jerome Boateng opened the scoring with well-taken volley, before Martin Skrtel pushed Mario Gomez in the box to earn Joachim Low’s side a penalty. Ozil's spot-kick was saved by Matus Kozacik. Tuesday, June 21, Northern Ireland 0-1 Germany
Mesut Ozil was man of the match as Germany secured their place at the top of Group C with a 1-0 win over Northern Ireland in Paris. The Arsenal playmaker was in fine form throughout, going close to opening the scoring and supplying his team-mates with many chances. Mario Gomez scored the game's only goal in the first half but the world champions would have won by more were it not for the heroics of Michael McGovern, who made a series of impressive saves.

Mesut Ozil played the full 90 minutes of Germany’s 0-0 draw with Poland. Mario Gotze came closest in a quiet first half when he hit the post in. Ozil then forced former Gunner Lukasz Fabianski into a good save late on, but Germany could not find a winner.
