Arsenal teamed up with Betfair and professional players from British Basketball League franchise, London Lions, for a European-themed Betfair Tap Tap Boom challenge.
Representing their home nations of Spain, France and England, Santi Cazorla paired with Kai Williams, Laurent Koscielny paired with Jamal Williams and Theo Walcott paired with Joe Ikhinmwinto create and execute tricks combining skill moves from football and basketball.
The rules are simple:
- Each round requires pairs to complete a trick combining football and basketball skills
- All tricks must end with the ball in either the hoop or a small-sided goal
- For each trick completed the pair received a word (TAP, TAP & BOOM) and the first pair to receive all three words - TAP.TAP.BOOM - are the winners.
- In the event of a tie, the team who demonstrated the most flair will win
Players were given time for trick brainstorming and to warm up their hoop skills before showing off what they'd come up with over a succession of rounds.
In the initial stages there was nothing to choose from between the teams, with all of the players showing they had the skill and nerve to complete the unique tricks early on.
The mismatched pairing of 5ft 4in Cazorla and 6ft 6in Williams eventually took the victory in the final round, much to the delight of the Spanish midfielder who will be hoping his country repeats his success in this summer's tournament.
Betfair spokeswoman Naomi Totten said: "The Arsenal players were all basketball fans and their skills under the hoop got increasingly better as they warmed up, but it was Santi and his teammate, Kai, who walked away with the win.
"If you fancy Spain to replicate this success in the Euros this summer, they are 11/2 third favourites to win the tournament. England are 8/1 behind them while France, the host nation, are 7/2 joint favourites with Germany."
