‘I feel very proud about PFA award’

Hector Bellerin says he is “very proud” to be named in the PFA’s team of the season.

The Arsenal right back was one of the revelations of the 2015/16 campaign and has followed that up with another strong season at Emirates Stadium.

Bellerin’s maturity and drive earned him praise from Arsene Wenger recently and the Spain Under-21 international has now been recognised by his peers.

“Having the recognition of players, managers and football professionals is a great thing,” Bellerin told Arsenal Player.

“I feel very proud about the award. That said, I could have never managed to achieve it without my team-mates. Playing for Arsenal helps because all my team-mates help you improve and stand out. I am very thankful to my team-mates.

“For a professional the second season is always the hardest. You must prove that the level you showed in your first season was not a coincidence. Also, you must keep a good level from the beginning to the end of the second season. Being awarded makes me very proud.”

Bellerin was outstanding against West Bromwich Albion on Thursday night and, alongside two-goal Alexis, gave Arsenal a potent threat down the right flank.

“It´s always very easy to have a good understanding on the pitch with players like Alexis,” said Bellerin. “He is a top quality player who makes playing football easier for the rest and anyone watching the game can sense that.

“We had some difficult weeks lately because some of the last results did not quite go our way. There is still a lot to play for so it was time to react. We came onto the pitch with the right mentality and that reflected in the final score.”
