Community participants meet NBA legends

Arsenal in the community Basketball

Arsenal in the Community participants had the chance to play basketball at the O2 arena on Thursday 14 January, hours before the Toronto Raptors and the Orlando Magic took to the court, billed as an unmissable clash for this year’s NBA Global Games London 2016.

They were drilled by NBA legend Muggsy Bogues and former WNBA star Allison Feaster during a special morning, that came courtesy of club partner Gatorade.

The group that attended were a mixture of students attending City and Islington sixth form college and London Metropolitan University, where Arsenal in the Community run open Basketball sessions through a multi-sports project.

The selected players are all members of the club’s Premier League 4 Sport programme which runs sessions throughout Islington, Camden and Hackney. Having improved their game play during the past term, the students were offered a unique opportunity to be coached by NBA and WNBA greats. “This is an experience of a lifetime..” said KD from London Metropolitan University. “We’ve all said we’ll never forget it – it’s inspiring!”

Each year, Arsenal’s Premier League funded project encourages hundreds of young people to be active by participating in Olympic sports, as an expression of the London 2012 legacy.

Nationally, participating football clubs have engaged over 83,000 young people in weekly sports clubs through the Premier League 4 Sport programme which promotes a range of 12 Olympic sports.
