Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal’s fighting spirit earned them an “exceptional result” against Manchester City.
The Gunners beat their title rivals 2-1 at Emirates Stadium thanks to goals from Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud, securing second place going into Christmas.
"We realise this character and these ingredients are needed in every game"
Wenger says Arsenal must continue to show their character in every game due to the intensity of the Premier League.
“It was a massive game and we had to fight until the last second and I believe we did very well,” he told Arsenal Player. ”We had all the types of ingredients needed in these big games and we had great togetherness, a great fighting spirit and as well we had moments of brilliance and we created many chances.
“Overall this is what you want from this type of game and you put performances together from Olympiacos, Aston Villa and today, you can be very proud of the team. There is a great solidarity and belief in the team and in the dressing room and we want to take care of that.
“We realise this character and these ingredients are needed in every game. You look at the results in the Premier League. Without an exceptional fight there is not an exceptional result.”
