Olivier Giroud spoke to the media after Arsenal's 2-1 victory over Everton on Saturday evening.
Here's what he said.
on the win…
To win a third time after the Bayern Munich and Watford game makes us very pleased. We wanted to keep it up against a good team. Everton played well and they are always dangerous up front. We needed to keep our focus high and we succeeded in scoring the two headers, but it was a shame that we conceded the goal before half-time.
on hitting the bar…
I maybe should have scored a second but the luck was not with me. It’s okay though because I’m pleased to help the team win. It’s always nice to score as a striker and it was a fantastic ball from Mesut so I tried to return the favour in the second half, but he didn’t want to score.
on whether he thought the job was done at 2-0…
Yes. The thing is, when we are attacking we need to finish the action with a shot, not to get counter-attacked. We know that they play well on the counter-attack. They break well and we were aware of that, but their goal was a bit lucky because of the deflection. It’s nice to win this kind of game after a big Champions League game.
on responding to playing less…
The main thing is that the team is doing well. That’s the best thing for me. As long as we are winning, I am pleased with that and I try to bring something else to the team. We have a different profile with Theo, and a good understanding with each of us up front, so it is okay. Before, Theo was in good form and now it is me, so we need to both contribute to the big matches.
