Olivier Giroud believes Sunday’s game against Manchester United is a perfect chance for Arsenal to bounce back from the Olympiacos defeat.
The Gunners were beaten 3-2 by the Greek champions on Tuesday, meaning they sit bottom of Champions League Group F.
However, Arsene Wenger’s side have won three of their last four Premier League game and Giroud is confident Arsenal can continue their good league form against United.
“It’s a big game,” he told Arsenal Player. “It’s always nice to play a massive game to bounce back. The focus will be even more present than usual.
"I needed to play on the pitch which is where I am most happy"
“We need to learn from our mistakes [against Olympiacos]. When we came back to 2-2 I thought we could have the time to win the game. We still had 15 minutes to score the third goal but we forgot the basics of keeping a good defensive shape.
“We conceded the third goal on a break so it was a disappointing result but it’s like that. It’s part of the past now and we need to focus on bouncing back against Manchester United. It’s a big game.”
Giroud scored a late consolation in United’s last visit to Emirates Stadium, a 2-1 defeat back in November, and the striker is determined to be on the winning side this time around.
“It was a special moment for me because I had just come back from three months of injury and I was a substitute,” he said. “When I came on I wanted to give everything as usual, but I needed to play on the pitch which is where I am most happy.
“I was really, really proud to score this goal especially because I was out for a long time, but I was disappointed because of the result. I remember Rooney’s goal and it was so frustrating because we dominated the game. Hopefully on Sunday we will be efficient and stronger than them.”
