Danielle Carter says scoring a hat-trick on her England debut is a “dream come true”.
The forward marked her first cap with a goal inside two minutes, before completing her treble in the second half as Mark Sampson’s side beat Estonia 8-0 in their Euro 2017 qualifier.
It was Carter’s second hat-trick this season, and the forward is delighted with her start to international football.
"I wanted to score one but I never thought I’d get as many as three"
"I dreamt of this as a kid,” she told the FA.com. “I wanted to score one but I never thought I’d get as many as three. It’s a dream come true.
"Obviously I was very nervous at the start of the game, but getting that goal early on helped me calm down and helped the team build momentum.
"Mark just told me to enjoy it and let my ability do the rest. Estonia did cause us a few problems but we were resilient at the back and we managed to keep a clean sheet.
"We knew we had to get the job done, and the term we were using was ‘we need to turn the oven on’ – we definitely did."
