Arsene Wenger says that David Seaman’s strength on and off the field made him a very special player.
The former England goalkeeper joined from Queens Park Rangers in 1990 and went on to become a legend for club and country during a glittering 13 years at Highbury.
Tuesday marks 25 years since Seaman’s league debut for Arsenal and Wenger recalled his first impression of the goalkeeper.
"He was a special goalkeeper and I discovered a special man as well"
“First of all David was a talent I knew and a special talent I admired before I arrived here,” the manager told Arsenal Player. “I didn’t know the man but when I discovered the man I found out he was a special guy as well.
“He’s a guy who is friendly, helpful and you can rely on him. When it was backs to the wall he was very strong. He did stand up when he made a mistake and he said sorry to everybody. He was a special goalkeeper and I discovered a special man as well.
“When I arrived here I was lucky to find these kind of guys in my team who were not only special players but they also had a special quality on the human front.”
