Per Mertesacker has hailed Arsenal’s “dominant” performance at Crystal Palace - but says there is still much more to come from the team.
The Gunners secured their first win of the Premier League season after a fine strike from Olivier Giroud and Damien Delaney’s own goal.
Mertesacker was pleased to see the team get back on track after their opening-day defeat, but expects the side to improve further in the coming weeks.
“It was important to bounce back,” he said. “We started really well, had a couple of great chances in the first 10 minutes and could have scored earlier. We made it difficult for ourselves, but overall it was a very encouraging performance from top to bottom.
“We looked quite good defensively, but it was a good goal from them with no chance for Petr. After that, we came back, then they had a chance at the start of the second half [that hit the post] and that kept us in the game. Then we started to play again and created some good chances.
“We have a good strike force. We created good chances, but we could have executed better, especially in the first 10 minutes.
“We were good on the break, good in the combinations, [and] there is a lot more to come from us. That is what we need, that is our game, and we need to count on that.”
