Losa - We are growing our own stars

Pedro Martinez Losa

Pedro Martinez Losa believes Arsenal Ladies are building a strong team of young players.

The Gunners signed Marta Corredera from Barcelona on Wednesday and Losa is confident that the 23-year-old will improve an already impressive squad.

“At Arsenal we are always looking for young players with desire who are willing to work hard to progress, become better and bring positives to the team,” the manager told Arsenal.com.

"We don’t just want to bring in the big stars, we want to bring players in who can grow at the club"

“They have to have a technically good understanding of the game and quality in the final third as well. The reason we bring in these kind of players is because we can build together and give them the opportunity to be a part of an incredible squad and an incredible club.

“We can make a difference by giving these sorts of young players the opportunity to to show us why they belong in the first team. We don’t just want to bring in the big stars, we want to bring players in who can grow at the club alongside Leah Williamson, Carla Humphrey and Jade Bailey so that we can progress together.

“We have a good example in the men’s team with players like Jack Wilshere and Hector Bellerin. It’s not about nationality, they are just Arsenal players and that’s what we’re trying to help.”

The Gunners return to Women’s Super League action against Liverpool on Sunday, and Losa confirmed that his latest signing is ready to feature.

“Her English is really good and she was playing with Vicky [Losada] at Barcelona,” he said. “The first adaptation will be easier for her because she does have some Spanish colleagues here but we are a team and all the other players will help her settle. We hope she can be a good signing for us.”
