Ivan Gazidis believes that Arsenal’s FA Cup success can provide a platform for the club to build on.
The Gunners retained the trophy with a comprehensive 4-0 win against Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
It was another memorable day and Gazidis is delighted with the Gunners’ progress.
"There’s a tremendous feeling that this is the beginning of something, this is a platform"
“It was a fantastic day and a really fantastic performance,” the chief executive told Arsenal Player. “The boys did incredibly well out there. From the first minute to the 90th they showed the kind of character and quality that they have.
“I also thought our fans were magnificent. To see that bank of yellow really pushed us over the line and it was a brilliant, brilliant day.”
Francis Coquelin and Hector Bellerin played the full 90 minutes and Gazidis is proud of how Arsene Wenger has been able to call on Arsenal’s academy products.
“It’s brilliant the way that the club is coming together,” Gazidis said. “We’ve had players along the way whose character have been questioned and tested. We look at a player who was told he couldn’t play in Germany but he’s come back and is putting in magnificent performances for Arsenal.
“We look at a player who is 19 years old and has been asked to play in the Champions League, and has taken his chance with both hands. This team has enormous character and great potential looking forward.
“There’s a tremendous feeling that this is the beginning of something, this is a platform, and we’re very excited about what we can do with this team.”
