Jack Wilshere says Arsenal now know how to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Gunners had struggled in recent visits until Danny Welbeck's goal secured an impressive FA Cup quarter-final win in March.
Arsenal have not won at Old Trafford in the Premier League since 2006, but Wilshere believes this season’s victory will give the Gunners confidence going into Sunday’s clash.
"We know we can beat them and maybe they might be thinking about that game as well"
“Mentally it helps,” the England midfielder said. “The past few years we have been there we have struggled and we can’t hide from that. In the last four or five years we haven’t won there. Winning there in the FA Cup was a big confidence boost for us.
“When we go there on Sunday we know what it will take, we know we can beat them and maybe they might be thinking about that game as well. Hopefully we can repeat that performance."
Sunday could be Wilshere’s first start since sustaining an ankle injury in the reverse fixture at Emirates Stadium, and the midfielder says he is ready for the challenge.
“It was an injury that I couldn’t do anything about,” he said. “It was a tackle that put me out for four months and it was frustrating but I’ve been there before and I know what it takes to come back from injury, so I know the level you need to get back into the team.
“When you’re out for a long time, the game goes on and the club has to move forward. They’ve been doing great, got the results they needed and are in a great position in the league. It’s tough to get back in but I know the manager trusts me so hopefully I’ll get some more game time this season.”
