Giroud - We will travel with confidence

Olivier Giroud says Arsenal’s performance against West Ham has given them confidence they can pull off an historic result in Monaco.

The Gunners trail 3-1 from the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash, and face a major battle to progress from Tuesday’s match.

But Giroud - who has scored eight goals in his last 12 games - believes that they can reach the quarter-finals.

"I think we learned from our mistakes and we will go there with a lot of confidence but it will be a tough game"

“We were disappointed by the result [at Emirates Stadium] and obviously we have to bounce back and give everything,” the striker said.

“We trust in our chance to go through and if we create as many chances as we did [against West Ham], we can create hope.

“We are on a really good run. I think we learned from our mistakes and we will go there with a lot of confidence but it will be a tough game.”

Giroud is pleased with his form since returning from a three-month spell on the sidelines earlier in the season, but says the team’s recent run has been a collective effort.

“Since I came back from injury, I take a lot of pressure on the pitch,” he said. “I try to have a good workrate for the team. That’s the key of our game, to keep the pressure on the defenders.

“We try to keep it up and switch on as fast as we can when we lose the ball and turn quickly from defensive to offensive positions. It’s teamwork. We are going to try to do it as much as we can.”
