Wenger - Our desire got us over the line

Arsene Wenger has hailed Arsenal’s “solidarity” in securing the three points at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The Gunners dominated the game at the Hawthorns and took a 60th-minute lead through Danny Welbeck’s firm header from eight yards out.

The Baggies threatened in the closing stages and hit the bar late on, but the visitors held on to secure a second successive win.

"The legs had gone a little bit in the last 15 minutes but we wanted to push it through and we did it with a great solidarity"

“I’m very pleased because when you play on a Wednesday night in the Champions League and then on Saturday lunchtime, the time of recovery is very short,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“We came with a desire to win the game and I think it was a deserved win. The legs had gone a little bit in the last 15 minutes but we wanted to push it through and we did it with a great solidarity.

“We have had three good performances [recently] and only got two good results. We responded well [since Man United] and had two cleans sheets after our defensive stability was questioned and we responded very well on that front.

“When you win in the Champions League and you have to travel away in the Premier League and you win again, you can say that you have done your job.”
