Arsene Wenger believes newly-promoted clubs are better than they were 10 years ago because they are more technically advanced.
Wenger’s side host Burnley at Emirates Stadium on Saturday for their second game against Premier League newcomers, having already drawn 1-1 at Leicester City in August.
The Clarets occupy the league’s bottom place having failed to win this season, but Wenger expects a similarly tough challenge to the one his team faced at the King Power Stadium.
"The players are now technically prepared to play in the Premier League"
“[Promoted clubs] are technically better than 10 years ago,” the manager explained. “If you watch the games, the players are technically prepared to play in the Premier League.”
Burnley and Leicester were promoted alongside play-off winners Queens Park Rangers, but they currently make up three of the bottom four places.
“This season is unusual,” Wenger said. “Before, the teams who came up were in the top five or six at the start of the season. But I think these teams will recover because they have the technical quality.”
