Boss on referees, technology, contracts

Arsene Wenger faced the media on Friday ahead of the Manchester City game. Here are some extra quotes from his press conference. For more headlines, visit our Digest page.

on the last 10 days…
In terms of my career I want to win every single game so after every single game that I don't win I'm very disappointed but determined to win the next one. I just have enough experience to know that what matters is the future and the next game.

on some booing after Swansea…
It is a time where it's an important part of the season and we want them to be behind the team. I believe that you cannot fault the commitment of the team on Tuesday night - it was absolutely marvellous. We came back and we were unlucky to concede an own goal in the last minute. That can unfortunately happen.

on Sagna's contract…
He has an offer, he has not come back to us yet. I'm confident he will stay but we will accept his decision. No matter what his decision will be, we will accept it and go on with it.

on offering a 30-year-old more than a year…
It depends. It's a general law in our club, yes. But we look at individual cases and we adapt it to the individuals.

on his own new contract…
I told you many times my commitment is not questionable and I have given my word. I always respect my word - it's as simple as that.

on the red card at Chelsea...
I think he has not seen [it]. My opinion is quite simple, I think the whole case has not been treated seriously. Why? Because he has not seen the incident, and because the linesman in front of us made the decision. I believe that maybe the referee needs more assistance to make the right decision.

on Andre Marriner apologising...
He does not have to do that, I trust his honesty. He made a mistake and it can happen. We did not lose [because] of that, the game became much more difficult for us of course - at 3-0 down with 10 men, you know you have to attack. I completely accept the fact that Andre Marriner is an honest referee and a good referee. He did not do that on purpose, it was accidental.

on help for referees...
When they have a doubt, as I have said many times, the referees should have video assistance on his demand. For a long long time I plead for video, only for that purpose. Then, when the referee feels he needs assistance, he should have that resource. I believe it would be very good to give them that opportunity. Referees need help, the game is too quick today for everybody to master everything.
