Nelson wins Gamechanger of the Season award

Reiss Nelson celebrates the winner against Bournemouth

Reiss Nelson’s last-gasp strike against Bournemouth in March has won the Premier League’s Gamechanger of the Season award.

Our winger was deemed to be the individual with the single most match-transforming performance over the course of the campaign, and beat off competition from five other players for his brilliant display against the Cherries in March.

In that game at Emirates Stadium, we found ourselves 2-0 down before Ben White pulled a goal back, and that prompted Mikel Arteta to introduce Reiss on 69 minutes. Within a minute, he had helped to pull us level when his centre was converted by Thomas Partey, but it would take until the 97th minute for his biggest impact to come.

After a Martin Odegaard corner was cleared to the edge of the area, he controlled the ball on his chest, let it drop to his feet and unleashed a bullet of a shot with his left foot that flew into the top corner to send Gooners around the world into ecstasy as we secured the three points with seconds to spare.

Following votes from supporters and a panel of experts, Reiss came out on top ahead of Everton’s Jordan Pickford, Tottenham Hotspur duo Son Heung-min and Rodrigo Bentancur, as well as Manchester City teammates Erling Haaland and Riyad Mahrez.
