Jordan Nobbs and Lia Walti stepped up their recovery from injury on Sunday as we defeated London City Lionesses 5-0 in our opening Continental League Cup fixture.
It was perhaps the biggest positive from a dominant display at Princes Park, but we were dealt a frustrating blow just moments before kick-off as Louise Quinn was forced to pull out of the starting XI during the warm-up.
We spoke to Joe Montemurro after the game about the positive progress of Walti and Nobbs, as well as Quinn’s injury - and this is what he said:
on Jordan Nobbs picking up another 90 minutes…
At the moment we know that we can’t back up games with Jordan. We know that we need to give her at least seven days in-between, so hopefully we can get her right for Brighton. She can recover for Thursday night and we could give her some minutes, but the reality is that we need to be careful with her because she’ll tire quickly. We will continue to integrate her slowly back into the side, and the same goes with Lia and Mitch.
on Lia Walti’s return…
I think we’re all happy to see Lia back. She brings another live of energy to the team and we know that there’s a level of construction and a way we can play with her in the side. She’s another player like Jordan who we’ve got to be careful with and make sure we get her through the first half of the season. It’s a process.
on Louise Quinn being pulled from the starting XI…
She just felt a little calf issue which we don’t think is too bad, but we will monitor it during the week and hopefully have her back bigger and better.
