‘Mead will be one of the best in the world’

Beth Mead

Beth Mead scored her 20th goal for the club on Wednesday as we ran out 7-0 winners over Yeovil Town in the Women’s Super League.

The England international joined us from Sunderland Ladies in January 2017, having scored 77 goals in 78 appearances - and she’s since become an integral part of our attacking force.

Joe Montemurro is delighted with her development – and has tipped her to hit even greater heights in the future.

“Beth’s an exciting player and a player that we believe will be one of the best forwards in the world,” Montemurro told Arsenal.com

“She’s still growing and developing and she’s a vital part of our attacking force. We know that with the work she’s putting in she’s going to get the rewards.

“All of our players are reaping the rewards from the great pre-season that they’ve had,” she added. “They’ve worked very, very hard and they deserve the rewards and benefits of the work that they’ve put in. But the important thing is that we’re starting to play our style of football, so it’s a good platform to build on and we just want to keep improving.”

Danielle van de Donk was substituted at half-time, sparking fears that she’d picked up an injury - but Montemurro was quick to set the record straight.

“With three games in eight days I think it’s important that we rotate everyone,” said Montemurro.

“Danielle’s played a lot of football, so we felt that it was important that we rested her and have her ready for the big game against West Ham on Sunday. It’s pretty much the same for everyone.

“Everyone's played a lot of football over the last week or so, so we know that it’s going to be tough on Sunday and the reality is that we’ve rotated the squad to the best of our ability. Everyone’s ready for the match on Sunday.”
