After a long wait for a Women's Super League win at Emirates Stadium, our Gunners delivered in spades.
In an emphatic 5-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, five of our players got on the scoresheet, including Beth Mead and Frida Maanum.
"I think we had a good first-half performance," said Mead. "I don’t think it was the perfect package for 90 minutes. I thought we let our standards slip a little bit in the second half but to get five goals, and score some different goals [with different] goalscorers is always a nice way to win."
One of these goals came through a stroke of brilliance from Maanum, floating the ball effortlessly into the top corner: "I think the Bayern goal [in the UWCL quarter-final] is still a bit better, but I still rank it quite highly!"
Unlike last weekend's dominant performance against Manchester United which didn't translate to a win, Mead noted how well we took our chances this time around.
"We were clinical today, we had chances and scored them, I think that was the difference between this performance and last week. We played well last week but were unfortunately not very clinical in front of goal, I’d say we were more ruthless today in front of goal."
Over 20,000 supporters watched on for the victory, providing another special atmosphere under the lights at Emirates Stadium.
"It’s amazing. You can hear them the whole game and for us, it means the whole world," said Maanum. "You can hear them every time at Emirates Stadium, Boreham Wood and for the away games, it’s just a brilliant support for us."
