Having played in all three of our recent wins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Gabriel Martinelli is thrilled he’s helped give all Arsenal supporters something to cheer yet again.
The Brazilian was a part of the sides that won 2-0 in January 2023 and 3-2 back in April, and completed the treble with today’s victory on the other side of north London.
Now one of the longest-serving members of our squad, the importance of derbies aren’t lost on the winger, and he admitted the dressing room was bouncing post-match as we seized another success on enemy turf.
“We are buzzing!” he said post-match. “After the game, we were really happy, we have to enjoy this victory. We know the importance of this game, not just for us, but for the club and for the fans. We are really happy to make them happy.
“It’s always really good to win against them. These days are even bigger when you win against them.
“I really like these kinds of games. They’ve got a really high line, it’s good for the wide players. We had a really good game and I’m really happy with the performance.”
This particular victory came with a patched-up midfield following Martin Odegaard’s injury and Declan Rice’s suspension, and Gabi admitted that there were some adjustments to make with two regulars missing.
However it paid off when compatriot big Gabi popped up with the winning goal, and his fellow Brazil international was delighted he got his big reward for the displays he’s been putting in of late.
On how we had to change for this game, he added: “Just a little bit – we have different players; no-one plays the same way and we have to adjust. We did really well today, and I think we deserved the victory.
“[Big Gabi] is really happy, he deserved that. He’s a guy that deserves everything that he’s been achieving, so happy with him, the performance and his goal.”
