Interview

Lotte: "I'm incredibly proud of the team"

After an instant classic against Manchester City, Lotte Wubben-Moy shared her delight pitchside.

Our number 3 spoke about scoring in front of our incredible away support, how exciting the game was to play in and how we'll take this momentum into round two against City on Thursday.

Here is everything she had to say:

on how exciting a game it was to play in...

Well, I think it was everything that it looked. It was a rollercoaster. We knew that the momentum would be shifting. Coming here is always a tough game, but we weathered it, and I think it showed in the way we were calm and collected. We knew that they were going to try to overload us in the wide areas and get early crosses in. We know how Viv plays all too well. So there are many things that we could control in the game today, and I think we controlled what we could. In the first half, maybe not to the best of our abilities, but I think the fruits of our labour came in the second half, when we were able to play them off the pitch, I think, in many ways. And yeah, when you go into the final 10 minutes, a goal up, you expect them to push more. So to see us playing football still in those final minutes, I'm incredibly proud of the team.

on her goal...

Well, I think Khiara's glove hit my head first before the ball did or I'm not sure. It's a great feeling, a great feeling to score for the team, but I think an even better feeling to do it together. To see everyone contributing in their own way. I think, shout out to the fans in particular today. They were unbelievable. Going towards them in the second half, you could hear them. To be honest, I'm just gutted that when I scored, I wasn't at their end so I could celebrate with them. I'd have done the full pitch length if I could, to go and celebrate with them. But yeah, to have my teammates around me in that moment, there's nothing better, to be honest.

on Stina's fantastic record against Manchester City...

Ah, it's haunting, isn't it? Stina Blackstenius, my girl. Unbelievable, really. I think everyone played their part. Stina, scoring a goal, running the channels. We've got a few injuries at the moment, but, yeah, it didn't show, did it? We put our bodies on the line and you said you were out of breath. We were out of breath, but we fought through, and I think played our way, and played our way to the best of our ability, the second half in particular.

on whether we'll use this result ahead of round two against City on Thursday...

I think we've got to hold on to the fire. Like we did today, feeling the effects of our loss against Chelsea last weekend, I think wherever you can gain that extra per cent of passion, of intensity, you've got to gain it. This week, I think we've been really, really professional in the way that we've taken that loss. We've not let it crack us. And I think in the past, we have maybe been seen to be put off by it. But taking this win today onto Thursday, it can be the fire in our bellies.
