Matt Smith opened his account for Swindon Town on Saturday in a 3-1 win against Rochdale at County Ground. Goals from Tyler Smith and Anthony Grant put the home side in a dominant position before Smith grabbed a memorable debut goal.

Our 19-year-old midfielder picked up a loose pass from keeper Gavin Bazunu, steadied himself, then slotted the ball into an empty net to make it three.

Jimmy Keohane then notched a consolation strike in added time for the visitors, but the damage was done.

Elsewhere, Jordi Osei-Tutu played the full game for Cardiff as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the Championship season.

Josh Windass put the visitors in front inside of five minutes before Jordan Rhodes sealed the points on the stroke of half-time.

Ben Sheaf was also in Championship action on Saturday as Coventry lost 2-1 to Bristol City on the road.

Jamie Paterson had the ball in the back of the net after just 19 seconds in the first half, but saw his early strike cancelled out by Matty Godden 32 minutes later.

Sheaf joined the action on the hour mark, replacing Gustavo Hamer in the middle of the park. Bristol's Tomas Kalas then struck eight minutes from time to snatch all three points at Ashton Gate.

Tyreece John-Jules played 78 minutes as Doncaster drew 1-1 with MK Dons at home in League One. Madger Gomes opened the scoring eight minutes into the second half before Dons defender Bailey Cargill notched in the 88th minute to salvage a point.
