With international action in full swing, Karl Hein helped Estonia to a 3-1 win over Azerbaijan in the UEFA Nations League as their improving form continues.
The victory was Estonia's third in five games under new head coach Jurgen Henn, and their first in the competition this term. Karl kept them in the game early on with a pair of good saves, before Ioan Yakovlev netted for the hosts in Tallinn.
Azerbaijan netted a penalty to level it up, but first international goals for Vlasi Sinjavski and Rocco Robert Shein secured victory for Karl’s nation. He will have the chance to win his 34th international cap against Sweden on Monday night, with Estonia four points behind them and Slovakia in the race for promotion from League C.
In domestic action, Charles Sagoe Jr was involved in a thrilling game as Shrewsbury Town beat fellow strugglers Crawley Town 5-3 to claim their first away win since March.
The Shrews were 2-1 down before Charles’ introduction in the 71st minute, and they raced into a 5-2 lead before conceding a late consolation but rose to 21st in the League One table, jumping their opponents in the process. That was Charles’ 10th appearance for the Shropshire side.
In the League of Ireland, the race for a European spot is hotting up with the season in its final weeks. Jack Henry-Francis’ Sligo Rovers take on Derry City on Monday night, and just four points separate the sides in sixth and third respectively, with third earning a Conference League spot. Jack has made seven appearances for Sligo since joining in July.
Moving over to the women's game, Teyah Goldie played all 90 minutes as London City Lionesses beat Charlton Athletic 2-0, moving level on points with the Women’s Championship leaders Birmingham City. Goals from Izzy Goodwin and Sofia Jakobsson secured the derby days spoils for Teyah’s team.
Michelle Agyemang also experienced similar highs as she helped Brighton & Hove Albion beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in the WSL, playing the final half an hour of the contest which was decided by a Bruna Vilamala strike on 35 minutes. That result saw the Seagulls rise to fourth in the table, having won three of their opening four games.
