Trae Coyle scored what proved to be the winning goal for Gillingham as they beat Wigan 3-2 at DW Stadium on Saturday.

Joe Garner opened the scoring for the hosts after 21 minutes before a brace from Jordan Graham gave the visitors the lead at half time.

Coyle then bagged his first goal of the season after the break in the 62nd minute. Scott Robertson laid the ball off on the edge of the box and our on-loan youngster bent the ball beyond the diving Jamie Jones to make it three.

Wigan found the net just two minutes later though, but Gillingham held on to go 14th in League One after two matches.

Tyreece John-Jules was also on the scoresheet on Saturday as Doncaster beat Charlton 3-1 at The Valley.

Madger Gomes found the net from long range before an own goal from Charlton's Charlie Barker made it 2-0.

John-Jules then got in on the act himself with a superb individual goal. He picked the ball up on the corner of the box, beat two men and fired into the roof of the net for Doncaster's third.

Conor Washington then nodded home to give Charlton a late lifeline with 23 minutes to play, but Doncaster shut up shop for the three points.

Elsewhere, Matt Smith played the full game as Swindon lost 2-0 against Blackpool on the road.

Two goals from CJ Hamilton either side of half time meant it was a frustrating afternoon for our 19-year-old midfielder.

Jordi Osei-Tutu kept a clean sheet as Cardiff beat Nottingham Forest 2-0. Keiffer Moore bagged a first-half brace to secure the Welsh outfit’s first points of the new campaign.

Ben Sheaf played a brief role in Coventry's 3-2 win over QPR on Friday evening. Our on-loan youngster replaced Jordan Shipley in the 90th minute to help his side hold on for three points at Ricoh Arena.

Lyndon Dykes converted from the spot before Matthew Godden levelled the game on the stroke of half time. Callum O'Hare then put Coventry in front to make it 2-1 after 50 minutes.

Yoann Barbet fired home a wicked shot from close range to get back on level terms, but 33-year-old defender Kyle McFadzean had the final say. He rose highest to meet Gustavo Hamer's corner and win the game for Coventry.

In other news, Dinos Mavropanos has returned to training with Stuttgart after a groin injury ruled him out of their opening Bundesliga fixture.
