Loan watch: Balogun scores against PSG

Folarin Balogun celebrates his goal against PSG

Folarin Balogun and Charlie Patino both scored as our loan Gunners continued to gain valuable first-team experience at their respective sides.

Balogun continued his excellent form for Reims by scoring a last-gasp equaliser at Paris Saint-Germain. Neymar looked to have given the hosts three points when he netted just before the hour but, six minutes into stoppage time, Balogun took centre stage. Racing on to Kamory Doumbia’s through-ball, the striker rounded Gianluigi Donnarumma before slotting home to extend his side’s unbeaten record to 13 matches in all competitions.

The England under-21 international has now scored 11 goals for his team in Ligue 1 this season, the most of any player aged 21 or under in Europe's big five leagues.

Patino also impressed when scoring in Blackpool’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Southampton - for whom Ainsley Maitland-Niles started at right-back. Romain Perraud’s brace put the home team in control but Patino set up a nervy finale when finishing clinically from inside the area midway through the second half.

Back in Ligue 1, Nuno Tavares completed the full 90 minutes of Marseille’s draw against Monaco. Former Gunner Alexis Sanchez equalised for Igor Tudor’s side after Jordan Veretout’s own goal had put the visitors in front.

Over in Italy, Pablo Mari was part of the Monza defence that kept a clean sheet in an impressive 2-0 away win at Juventus. Patrick Ciurria and Dany Mota scored in the first half as Raffaele Palladino’s team leapfrogged their opposition and moved up to 11th in Serie A.

Auston Trusty’s Birmingham City side drew at Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup. Reda Khadra gave the visitors an early advantage before Bradley Dack and Joe Rankin-Costello turned the game in Blackburn’s favour. Jordan James set up a replay when scoring in second-half stoppage time.

Brooke Norton-Cuffy started and played 80 minutes in Coventry City’s 2-0 home win over Huddersfield Town. Gustavo Hamer and Kasey Palmer were on target after the break

Alex Runarsson’s Alanyaspor were beaten 3-0 at Besiktas - with Cenk Tosun scoring twice and Dele Alli adding a third, while fellow goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri made his debut for Finnish side SJK Seinajoki in a 1-0 home defeat against Kuopion Palloseura. Ejeheri looked set for a clean sheet until Christian Tue Jensen scored direct from a free-kick after 76 minutes.

Mazeed Ogungbo came off the bench to help Crawley Town to an important 3-2 win over Salford City. Dom Telford, Dion Conroy and Teddy Jenks had put Crawley in complete control before Ryan Watson and Matty Lund’s late strikes set up a tense finish.

In the Eredivisie, Omar Rekik was a second-half substitute as Sparta Rotterdam drew away to NEC Nijmegen. Arno Verschueren gave Rekik’s side a second-half lead but Pedro Marques levelled late on, while Nikolaj Moller came off the bench for Den Bosch, who drew 3-3 at home to Maastricht.

Tim Akinola started as Chesterfield were beaten at fellow National League promotion hopefuls, Barnet, where Nicke Kabamba scored a hat-trick for the London side.

Up in Scotland, Ryan Alebiosu came off the bench in the latter stages of Kilmarnock’s defeat at Ross County - for whom Eamonn Brophy, Jordan White and Yan Dhanda scored to set up a 3-0 victory, while Alex Kirk’s Ayr United won 5-0 at Cove Rangers to close the gap to leaders Queen’s Park to just one point.
