Loan watch: Ballard MotM on first Blackpool start

Ballard

Daniel Ballard was named as the man of the match in his first start for Blackpool on Saturday.

The Northern Ireland international took the place of the suspended James Husband in central defence and impressed as his side beat MK Dons 1-0 at home.

The win leaves Blackpool 17th in League One after eight matches.

Elsewhere, Ben Sheaf was on the receiving end of a drubbing as Coventry lost 4-0 against Blackburn at St Andrew's.

An early Michael Rose red card put the hosts in trouble after 14 minutes and Blackburn were on hand to take full advantage. Two goals from Adam Armstrong and second-half strikes from Harvey Elliott and Sam Gallagher secured the points for Tony Mowbray's side.

Tolaji Bola played the full game as Rochdale beat Shrewsbury 2-1 at Greenhous Meadow.

The win moves Bola's side up to 10th in League One, four points off the playoff places.

James Olayinka played 67 minutes as Southend lost 2-0 against Tranmere on the road.

Our 20-year-old midfielder was replaced by Brandon Goodship just after the hour mark as his side looked for a way back into the game. The result leaves Southend rooted to the bottom of League Two having picked up just two points from eight games this season.

Harrison Clarke played the full game as Oldham lost 2-1 to Port Vale at home. Goals from Nathan Smith and Mitchell Clark gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at half time, but Oldham hit back through Zach Dearnley on 50 minutes.

The result leaves Harry Kewell's side just one point above the drop zone in League Two.

Jordi Osei-Tutu enjoyed a good run-out at the Cardiff City Stadium as Cardiff drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough.

Boro opened the scoring through George Saville after 36 minutes to set up a tight second half.

Our right-back was then replaced by Leandro Bacuna just three minutes before the Welsh outfit got back on level terms, as 23-year-old Sheyi Ojo struck late to share the points.

Matt Smith played 90 minutes as Swindon lost 2-1 to Northampton Town at Sixfields Stadium.

Christopher Missilou and Danny Rose put the home side 2-0 up within half-an-hour before Tyler Smith pegged them back with 15 minutes to play.

The result leaves Swindon with six points after seven games this season.

Trae Coyle came off the bench in the 85th-minute as Gillingham lost 2-0 to Fleetwood at home. Patrick Madden and Ched Evans scored at either end of the second half to secure the points.

In Spain, Lucas Torreira played 45 minutes for Atletico Madrid this weekend as Diego Simeone's side beat Real Betis 2-0 at home.

Yannick Carrasco replaced our on-loan midfielder at half time in a tactical switch that paid off - with the hosts scoring one minute after the restart through Marcos Llorente.

Atletico then doubled their lead late on as Luis Suarez bagged his fourth goal of the season to seal all three points at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

It was a bad weekend for defender Joseph Olowu in the Irish Premier Division. His Cork City side had relegation confirmed in a 2-1 defeat to Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds.

Cork have one more game to play against Derry City before they drop down to the Ireland First Division next term.
