Legends game funds upgrade for Hackney pitch

Hackney pitch opening

The Arsenal Foundation have helped to revamp sports facilities in Woodberry Down, thanks to money raised from the Legends match against Real Madrid.

The £75,000 investment, which has been made alongside Hackney Council and Berkeley Homes, has upgraded the estate’s pitch with a new surface, lighting, goalposts and fencing.

It will also allow Arsenal in the Community to host four hours' worth of training sessions at the facility every week, alongside the sports activities provided by Hackney Council.

Jeremie Aliadiere joined the Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville and local youngsters to open the refurbished facility.

“It’s a pleasure to be here and help officially open the pitch”, said Aliadiere, who played in the Legends fixture that helped raise the funds.

“It’s great to see that the money raised from the Legends match has gone to good use, and I feel privileged to have been able to play my part in that.

“I remember how important it was to have a local place to play football when I was growing up, and from being here today I can see how much this community will benefit from the facility.”

The Woodberry Down pitch is free and open for anyone to use. Regular sessions with Arsenal in the Community will start there next month.

The Arsenal Foundation would like to thank everyone that attended and supported the Legends match against Real Madrid for the part they have played in helping to refurbish this important facility.
