Leah Williamson will be putting all of her club friendships on hold during England’s World Cup opener against Scotland on Sunday.
The 22-year-old defender remains confident of securing all three points, but knows that she’ll be well-tested by three of her Arsenal team-mates: Kim Little, Lisa Evans and Jennifer Beattie.
“Kim is, in my opinion, one of the best players in the world,” said Williamson. “I see that every single week in training at Arsenal.
“We need to win that game in the midfield because Kim is an influential player. We highlighted her as a standout and I’m glad we have - we do need to be wary of her.
“Erin Cuthbert, Caroline Weir, Kim Little, they’re all very technical players which is the way that we aim to play as well. We just need to nullify their threat.”
Williamson was also quick to praise the experience our latest summer signing, Beattie.
“Bringing somebody like Jen in, she’s a winner,” she said. “She’s won with Man City and won before that with Arsenal. But until after Sunday we’re rivals, so there’s no friendship yet!”
The Group D clash is set to kick-off at 5pm (UK time) and will be broadcast live on BBC One.
