Joe Willock won't forget Saturday, January 5, 2019 in a hurry.
The 19-year-old became the first teenager to score for us in the Emirates FA Cup since 2010 when netting his second and third Arsenal goals in Saturday's 3-0 win at Blackpool.
After the game, Willock looked back on a memorable evening. Here's what he told Arsenal Player:
on a convincing win on a special day for him…
Yeah, it was a special day for the boys and for me on a personal note. I’m happy to get the win and push on to the next round and also happy to get the two goals I got, so it was good.
on the key for the win…
Digging deep really, and not showing frailties, not showing weakness or that we weren’t able to deal with the high balls or the contact football. We showed that we could deal with every aspect they brought to us. Our quality came through in the end.
on how it feels to score two…
It’s unbelievable and a dream come true. I always watched this cup as a young kid and to score in it today and help us go to the next round, it’s unbelievable.
on if he thought for a second he’d be going home with the matchball…
Yeah I did, but that’s how football is. You have to get up and look at the next opportunity. It was a bit of a disappointing one but I’m [more] happy we got the win really.
on taking his chances in the team…
I’m just working hard in training, listening to the boss, every day he’s giving me advice. I’m trying to make a big impact whenever I play - that’s my main objective.
