Joe Montemurro was a happy man on Sunday as we defeated London City Lionesses 5-0 in our Continental League Cup opener.
We ran out comfortable winners thanks to Beth Mead’s hat-trick, and goals from Jill Roord and Emma Mitchell, but it was the way in which we secured all three points that pleased our head head coach most.
“Today’s game is testament to where we’re at professionally,” said Montemurro. “We tried to rest a few players knowing we’ve got the Champions League and Brighton around the corner, but there were some very good movements and it was a good opportunity for us to work on our passages of play and our patterns.
“That’s the important thing about these games, that we continue to play our way and don’t move from that. The fact that we can bring in any player from the team and know that they’ll understand the system and structure is great, that’s what we’ve been working on.”
