‘It’s my first-ever derby… I can’t be happier’

Emile Smith Rowe won’t be forgetting Sunday’s game in a hurry.

Our Hale End graduate produced an influential performance on the left wing to help us beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in his first-ever senior north London derby.

"Last night I was just thinking of today,” he told Arsenal Media. “I'm so happy to be involved and to be a part of this team. I'm so grateful. It’s my first-ever north London derby so I can’t be happier.

“From the start I felt we looked really confident. We had a few moments where we were shaky but overall I think it was a good performance and we're really happy with the three points.”

Smith Rowe came so close to breaking the deadlock himself with a rasping drive from 20 yards, but was gutted to see his strike cannon off the crossbar.

“I literally started celebrating but it was a close one,” he said. “I've been shooting in training and the gaffer has been telling me to start having more shots and it was a bit unlucky but overall, I'm happy with the three points.

To get these three points has really pushed us and we want to carry on and continue like this. My legs are getting a bit more tired with so many games coming up but I feel like we've got the right people around us. They are helping us every day and keeping on top of our recovery, so we've just got to keep going.”
