Internationals: Van Veenendaal reaches milestone

van Veenendaal

We had five Gunners in international action over the weekend. Read on to find out who featured and how they fared.

Vivianne Miedema, Dominique Bloodworth and Sari van Veenendaal all featured in Netherlands’ 2-1 win over South Africa on Saturday.

Sherida Spite opened the scoring inside two minutes, before Miedema fizzed the ball into the bottom right corner with a left-footed strike from 20 yards.

Thembi Kgatlana pulled one back shortly after, but the hosts were unable to take the shine off van Veenendaal’s 50th cap for the Netherlands.

Miedema

Louise Quinn and Katie McCabe played the entirety of Ireland’s 1-0 friendly defeat to Belgium on Sunday.

Our duo delivered a promising performance, with McCabe wearing the captain’s armband, but they were unable to prevent Elena Dhont from scoring the game’s only goal in the 16th minute.

Elsewhere in Europe, Pauline Peyraud-Magnin was an unused substitute in France’s 3-1 win over the USA, while Leah Williamson and Lia Walti joined up with England and Switzerland respectively as part of a training camp.
