Internationals: Alexis scores in Chile win

Alexis and David Ospina were both in action for their respective nations in World Cup qualifying in the early hours of Friday.

Alexis was in action for Chile, who faced Ecuador, while David Ospina featured for Colombia, who hosted Paraguay.

Chile 2-1 Ecuador

Friday, October 6

Alexis scored the winning goal in the 86th minute against Ecuador to seal three points for Chile, who are now on the verge of automatic qualification to the World Cup.

Eduardo Vargas drew first blood for the hosts in the 22nd minute, firing in from close range after being teed up by Jorge Valdivia.

Although Ecuador managed draw level through Romario Ibarra just eight minutes from full-time, it proved to not be enough, with Alexis striking the winner just moments later.

The forward was on hand to bury Felipe Gutierrez’s parried shot into the back of the net and take his country a step closer to Russia 2018.

Colombia 1-2 Paraguay

Friday, October 6

David Ospina featured as Colombia lost 2-1 to Paraguay, with the visitors scoring twice in the final minutes to snatch the three points.

Radamel Falcao opened the scoring with just 11 minutes left in Barranquilla, but a 89th-minute strike from Oscar Cardozo and a goal from Antonio Sanabria deep into injury time saw Paraguay seal the win.
