Find out about our young Gunners in Germany

Charlie Patino training

This afternoon sees our pre-season campaign continue on Friday with a friendly against 1. FC Nurnberg at the Max-Morlock-Stadion, and there are plenty of fresh faces who have made the trip to Germany.

Along with Mikel Arteta's summer signings, the Spaniard has also called upon a handful of youth players who could see action this afternoon after being named in the matchday squad.

Here's everything you need to know about our young Gunners out in Germany:

Charlie Patino

Charlie Patino celebrates scoring against Sunderland in the Carabao Cup

Perhaps the most recognisable to supporters of the six academy prospects, Charlie has been with us since 2015 and made an instant impact on his first-team debut last season, coming off the bench in our Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Sunderland and scoring the final goal in our 5-1 win.

With outstanding close control and the ability to dictate games, Charlie impressed on his first senior start in January against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup and went onto make our matchday squad on a number of occasions in the second half of the season.

Salah-Eddine Oulad M'hand

Salah-Eddine

An exciting, skilful and technical midfielder, Salah has made a real impression at under-23 level ever since joining us from Eredivisie outfit Feyenoord as a free agent in 2020.

The 18-year-old Dutchman predominantly plays in central midfield and has an eye for a killer final ball and a love of scoring spectacular goals from range.

Salah's efforts at under-23 level were rewarded with a nomination for the competition's Player of the Month award last November.

His younger brother, Ismail, also a midfielder, joined our academy last season.

Matt Smith

Matt Smith

A tireless midfielder, Matt spent last season on loan with League One side Doncaster Rovers, becoming one of the first names on the team sheet, making 49 appearances in all competitions.

An Arsenal player from the age of eight, Matt captained our under-18s to the Premier League South league title in 2018/19, before becoming a key part of our under-23s squad.

Our midfielder then enjoyed two loan spells in League One with Swindon Town and Charlton Athletic and was on the bench for our 2020 FA Cup final win over Chelsea at Wembley.

Reuell Walters

Reuell Walters

A lively and attack-minded wing-back, Reuell took to under-18s football with ease last season, making his first five appearances all before turning 17.

17-year-old Reuell marked his debut for our academy with an assist in a 4-3 victory over Reading last season.

With blistering pace and impressive fitness, Reuell is capable of providing width down the right flank from the first minute to the last.

Lino Sousa

Lino Sousa

Full-back Lino joined us in January from West Brom and has made quite the impact since touching down in north London.

The 17-year-old's introduction to football was far from your traditional path, growing up playing Futsal in Portugal and being scouted after a family member spotted him kicking a can with an unusual technique.

An England youth international, Lino moved to Wolverhampton from Lisbon in 2013, aged eight and has represented his country at both under-15 and under-16 level, in addition to making his debut for West Brom’s under-18s at 15 years of age.

The lightning-quick full-back made 10 appearances in all competitions for our academy sides in his debut half-season, scoring two goals.
