Fabian Caballero | 1978-2024

Fabian Caballero

Everyone at the club is saddened to learn of the death of our former player Fabian Caballero, at the age of 46.

Fabian made three first-team appearances for us in the 1998/99 season after Arsene Wenger moved to bring the young striker in on loan from Paraguayan side Serro Portino in October 1998.

His only Premier League appearance was as a substitute in our 1-1 draw at home to Middlesbrough a month later, but he also featured in a 5-0 League Cup fourth-round defeat at home to Chelsea, and a 4-2 FA Cup third-round victory at Preston North End during his time at Highbury. He was a regular for our reserve side during this period, scoring eight goals in 16 appearances.

After playing back in Paraguay for Atletico Tembetary and Sol de America, he joined Dundee in July 2000 and featured in the 2003 Scottish Cup final before being named their Player of the Season the following campaign. He would make 142 appearances for the Dees, scoring 27 times.

He returned to Paraguay again with Tacuary in 2006, and later plied his trade in South Korea, Cyprus, Chile, Greece, Guatemala and Argentina over a playing career that spanned 19 years, hanging up his boots in 2014.

The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Fabian’s family and friends at this tragic time.
