Everton v Arsenal: The Brief

Arsenal women line up v Yeovil

We have the opportunity to book our place in the SSE Women’s FA Cup final when we face Everton at the Marine Travel Arena on Sunday.

The story so far

We reached the final four of the competition in glorious fashion, beating Charlton Athletic 5-0 at Meadow Park.

The Addicks came into that fixture off the back of nine consecutive wins, but found themselves a goal down within just four minutes thanks to Kim Little’s penalty. We then went on to score four in the second half, with Jordan Nobbs’ stunning effort from 25 yards the pick of the bunch.

Prior to that, we recorded a 1-0 win over Millwall through a solitary Beth Mead goal, and a 3-0 win over Yeovil, with the England forward on target once more.

The opposition

The Toffees come into this fixture having tasted defeat just once in their last six outings.

They’ve scored 18 during that six-game period - including a 6-1 thrashing of Durham Women in the previous round - and have only conceded five times. But that’s not the first time they’ve scored six in this competition.

Following a 3-1 win over Bristol academy, they managed to record a 6-0 win against Lewes Women, with Chaney Boye-Hlorkah bagging a hat-trick.

One to watch

Striker Mead has been in stunning form in recent weeks, and will play a vital role in unlocking the Toffees’ defence on Sunday.

The 22-year-old put in a relentless attacking display to score a crucial equaliser in our most recent fixture against Chelsea, before winning a penalty for England in their World Cup qualifying win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Mead’s got history of operating through the middle, but she’s an incredibly versatile forward who can stretch defences, operate on either flank and perfectly time her arrivals in the box.

Last time we met

We faced Everton less than two months ago on February 23, when we recorded a 1-0 win in the Women's Super League.

England international Mead scored the games only goal, when she received a loose ball inside the box, took a touch and fired the ball past Lizzie Durack.

That win proved to be our fourth successive victory over Everton Ladies.
