Euro 2025: Mariona assists twice in Spain win

Mariona Caldentey in action for Spain in Euro 2025

Mariona Caldentey kicked off her UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 campaign in style on Thursday evening with a pair of wonderful assists for Spain.

The reigning World Cup holders cruised to a convincing 5-0 victory over Portugal in Bern, with Esther Gonzalez scoring within the opening two minutes.

Less than five minutes later, Mariona found Vicky Lopez at the far post with pinpoint precision to double Spain’s advantage.

Our No. 8 delivered once again before the end of the half with a sumptuous long ball to Alexia Putellas. The Barcelona forward cushioned the cross, cut inside and hit home to put the tie out of reach.

Gonzalez then picked up her second goal at the close of the first half, before Cristina Martín-Prieto bagged a fifth in injury time.

Mariona was substituted in the 77th minute and will be back in action when Spain take on Belgium on July 7.
