Interview

Eidevall on defeat, Miedema and more

Jonas Eidevall spoke of his mixed emotions as we guaranteed a spot in the knockout stages of the Champions League despite a 1-0 loss to Lyon.

"We have to see how it is with Viv," said our boss after the final whistle. "That's obviously a concern here now, straight after the game to see how things are with her. That's where a lot of my thoughts are at the moment, to be honest."

In spite of the result, Eidevall believed there were positives to take from our display at Emirates Stadium.

"I think from a performance perspective, it was an even game. I think we did very well in long spells of the game. I think we could have got another result from that performance. That's how it is sometimes when you're playing great teams: you have to be efficient with your chances and with your defending.

"The performance was good from our side, both on the ball and off the ball. We played well. We really competed. We really challenged them. But, of course, we're disappointed that we didn't get the result. We're not only happy because of the performance – we need to have both."

"I haven't thought so much about us going through, because I'm obviously disappointed with the loss," he continued.

Now, our focus turns to next week and our final game of 2022 away against FC Zurich, which is still a must-win game for our Gunners.

"What I do know is that we have everything in our hands now going to Zurich. If we win, we win the group and that's important and that's our ambition to do."
