Eidevall assesses Bayern Munich defeat

Despite a promising first half away to Bayern Munich, we fell to a 5-2 loss in our Champions League opener on Wednesday evening.

After the full-time whistle, Jonas Eidevall shared his take on how the match fell out of our grasp and our plans to reset ahead of Saturday's huge match against Chelsea at Emirates Stadium.

"I think we played a good first half, where we were a better team," said Eidevall. "They come out [in the second half] with a lot of energy. I think we struggled a little bit with their balls in behind, and they're stretching us as a team. Then the big difference is their effectiveness on set pieces today, and we need to be better at defending in those situations."

When asked whether that energy Bayern brought to the second half caught us by surprise, Eidevall reflected that we had prepared for that eventuality.

"That's the way we know Bayern Munich play, and we were prepared for that, but it's obviously one thing to play against and another thing only to prepare. It was a very disappointing second half and a promising first half. On this level, it's not good enough. We need to play two good halves."

Looking ahead to Saturday's London derby, our head coach stressed the importance of making every second count in the build up.

"We don't have a lot of time to prepare for that game either, so we need to put every foot right here in our preparation, and we need to bring everything on Saturday.
