Goal of the month

Lacazette tops November Goal of the Month poll

Alex Lacazette’s fine finish against Liverpool has topped our November Goal of the Month poll.

Trailing 1-0 to Jurgen Klopp’s side at Emirates Stadium, the France striker latched on to an Alex iwobi pass in the area, twisted to buy himself some space and curled the ball into the far corner past Allison.

Lacazette’s strike - his second Goal of the Month win of the season - was the overwhelming winner with 71 per cent of the votes cast, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s effort against Wolves in second place.

Leno - Koscielny is the perfect captain for us

As Laurent Koscielny prepares to make his first-team return after seven months out, Bernd Leno is certain the Frenchman will provide a major boost.

The German international has never played with our club captain, but has seen enough in his short time at the club to know how much value he adds - on and off the pitch.

"In training you see how he is talking to other players," Leno said. "We have many young players and he talks to them and for me he is a big personality in the team, in the dressing room.

"Before Tottenham, he was not in the squad but five minutes before the game he said many, many good things about the history of the game, how important it is for the fans, the club, every player, so he is the perfect captain for us.

"He is a big personality and of course he has big quality. I think we should give him the time [to play]. The coach is calm with him because he was a long time injured.

"I am happy for him that maybe he will play [against Qarabag on Thursday], I think he will play because he needs the confidence to play. His body needs also the feeling for the game.

"Of course, he trained a long time for us but the games are more difficult because the game is different for your head. I am happy for him that he will maybe start on Thursday and of course he will be an option for the next weeks in the [main] starting XI."

Update on Rob Holding

Rob Holding

Further to the injury sustained during our match at Manchester United on Wednesday night, we can confirm that Rob Holding has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee.

Rob will undergo surgery to repair this in the coming days. The rehabilitation process is expected to take between six to nine months.
Everyone at the club will now be working as hard as we can to ensure Rob is back on the pitch as soon as possible.

Player of the month

November Player of the Month - VOTE NOW

Player of the Month - November 2018

It’s your chance to vote for your Player of the Month for November - and you could even win the chance to present the award.

Lucas Torreira's outstanding start to life in England continued as he played a key role in our draws with Liverpool and Wolves, and our victory at Bournemouth.

Bernd Leno also continued the impress, making four key saves in our 1-1 draw with Wolves before clawing an 89th-minute header away in the win at the Vitality Stadium.

Will Alex Iwobi get your vote? The Nigeria international laid on an assist for Alex Lacazette in the draw against Liverpool and delivered an inch-perfect through ball at Bournemouth in the build-up to our winner.

Rob Holding has had a fine month too, impressing at the heart of the defence as he plays with increasing authority as a mainstay of the backline.

Have your say below and remember to fill in your contact information for a chance of winning two tickets and presenting the award before a home game at Emirates Stadium.

Auba and Iwobi up for African Player of the Year

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alex Iwobi

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alex Iwobi have been nominated for the Confederation of African Football’s African Player of the Year award.

Our duo made the shortlist decided by votes from the members of the CAF media committee, technical and development committee and a panel of experts.

The awards gala, which honours footballers and officials who distinguished themselves over the past 12 months, will be hold on Tuesday, January 8 in Dakar, Senegal.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah won the award last year, after an impressive debut campaign for the Reds.
