We are proud to join forces with adidas and Stormzy to help launch the next chapter of the #Merky Football Careers partnership, the national programme created to enhance and protect diverse representation in football.
First established in 2022, with an ambition to affect change across the football community by addressing the lack of diversity off the pitch in football, the initiative provided 15 people with roles within the industry. Having now become part of the programme, we have opened the role of Creative Production Assistant, which will enable the successful applicant to drive and deliver outstanding creative work for our club.
Equality, diversity and inclusion has always been part of the fabric of Arsenal. We recently retained the Advanced Premier League Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Standard and the Football Leadership Diversity Code provides us with recruitment targets that we’re passionate about achieving. From our No More Red campaign with adidas which is designed to combat the root causes of knife crime, to becoming the first Premier League club to integrate British Sign Language at the Emirates Stadium, inclusion is always at the front of our minds.
We’re proud of the work we’re doing but our drive to bring pride, inspiration and belonging to the Arsenal family around the world never stops.
This year sees #Merky FC increase the number of off pitch roles from 15 to 50, with both adidas and Stormzy bringing together a collective of allies – 25 leading brands, including Arsenal, to form part of the careers programme kick-starting in January 2024. Each placement will provide work opportunities spanning operations and community to creative and marketing, in a bid to change the game for Black and Black mixed heritage youth.
To inspire the entire football industry and community adidas and #Merky FC have published a new report that uncovers the barriers faced by young Black people, as well as the #Merky FC approach to changing the game.
