Chelsea v Arsenal: The Brief

We play our first match of 2018 on Sunday as we travel to Chelsea in the Women’s Super League.

Joe Montemurro will be looking to continue his winning start at the club, having picked up a victory in his first match in charge, as we saw off Sunderland 3-1 in our last game.

THE OPPOSITION

The hosts come into this fixture sat in second place, just two points behind league leaders Manchester City. We trail the Blues by three points ourselves, but a victory would not see us leapfrog them due to goal difference.

Their top goalscorer, Fran Kirby, leads the league so far this season, having struck nine times in nine appearances.

In their previous fixture, Chelsea were 5-1 winners against Liverpool in the Continental Cup, thanks to a hat-trick from Kirby and goals from Ramona Bachmann and Erin Cuthbert.

ONE TO WATCH

Having got on the scoresheet in Montemurro’s debut game, Vivianne Miedema is a player who we may see the best of under new management.

The striker joined the club with a fantastic goalscoring reputation and has now struck three times so far this season.

Against the Blues Miedema will be keen to get on the scoresheet once more, as we make our charge up the league table.

LAST TIME WE MET

We shared the points with Chelsea in a 2-2 draw, with two injury-time strikes ensuring both sides left with a point.

Jodie Taylor opened the scoring in the first half, before Millie Bright headed the hosts level in the second period. The Blues then took the lead through Drew Spence, before Jordan Nobbs netted with moments left.
