Mariona Caldentey scored in the penalty shootout as Spain advanced to the semi-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Saturday.
Mayra Ramirez gave Colombia the lead in the 12th minute before Leicy Santos doubled it in the 52nd, but Spain responded with an impressive late comeback courtesy of goals from Jenifer Hermoso and Irene Paredes in the 79th and 97th minutes respectively.
In the penalty shootout, Mariona scored Spain’s first spot-kick, before Aitana Bonmati secured the win with their fourth.
Laia Codina came on in the 78th minute of the match.
Spain’s semi-final will take place at 8pm BST on Tuesday, August 6 against the winner of France v Brazil.
USA are also in the semis after beating Japan on Saturday. Emily Fox played 121 minutes before being forced off with an injury.
Emma Hayes’s side won the game with an extra-time strike from Trinity Rodman and will play Germany in the semi-finals at 5pm BST on Tuesday, August 6.
Commiserations to Cloe Lacasse as Canada exited the Olympics with penalty shootout defeat to Germany on Saturday.
Cloe came on in the 57th minute before Ann-Katrin Berger scored the winning penalty in the shootout for Germany.
