Interview

Bould - We’ve shown we just don’t give up

Bould

Steve Bould praised his side’s character as we battled back twice to take a point against Everton on Monday night.

In an eventful match that saw six goals and a red card handed to Tolaji Bola, we twice found ourselves a goal down before strikes from James Olayinka and Matt Smith levelled the scores.

We spoke to our head coach at full time and this is what he said:

on the draw…

I think overall, we had an awful lot of possession, especially in the second half. The first half was difficult against the wind, and they’re a tough team, they’re physically very strong. They gave us a few problems but we conceded three really poor goals and we have to score a great goal to get back in the game. That side defensively was disappointing but it’s not an easy place to come and play on a stormy night.

on Zak Swanson’s return to the side…

It’s fabulous to see him back. Although Joe (Olowu) has come back and picked up an injury again unfortunately, so we’re going to be down to a few bare bones coming up in the next few weeks. It’ll be difficult for us I think going forward and looking ahead. It’ll be a test for the younger kids, which is great.

on the character in the side…

We’ve shown character yet again tonight. We do it quite often actually and it’s a bit of a theme this year but the nice thing is that they don’t give up. We couldn’t fault them at all for effort, it wasn’t easy to create a lot of quality but we tried. We had a lot of the ball and overall we’ve conceded three goals but it wasn’t a bad performance.

on the match against Leicester in the PL international Cup…

It’ll be another tough game against Leicester. We’re not sure about our numbers, it will possible be another young side again on Friday, but again, that’s part of the challenge and something we’re looking forward too.

on Tyreece John-Jules’s loan to Lincoln…

It’s fabulous for him. Playing with men, playing proper league football and that’s where we want to move them to and that’s our next sort of pass on from this level. It’s a great experience for him and when he comes back we hope he’s going to make the next step into a top player.
