Balogun – I just wanted to make an impact

Balogun

Folarin Balogun scored his first Premier League 2 goal of the season on Monday night, as we fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Swansea City.

The 17-year-old forward came off the bench at the start of the second half and made a number of dangerous runs, before pulling away from his marker and firing home to kickstart the comeback.

We spoke to Balogun after the final whistle - and this is what he said:

on whether we should have picked up all three points…

Obviously we go into every game hunting for all three points, but today I thought we dug deep even though we were 2-0 behind. At half-time the manager spoke to us and we came out for the second half with a new mentality and we were able to get something from the game.

on what he wanted to do when he came off the bench…

I just thought that we needed to add more tempo to the game and I wanted to make an impact. I knew that once we upped the tempo and grabbed the first goal we were always going to grab something from the game.

on scoring his first Premier League 2 goal of the season…

At the end of the day I just want to help the team every week and if I can help with a goal or two every now and then I’ll be happy.

on what separated the first and second half performances…

I just thought that the tempo went our way and the boys really looked sharp in the second half. We passed the ball a lot quicker and that really made Swansea tired, so once that happened the gaps started to appear and then we were able to do our thing in the final third.

on what he needs to do next…

I just need to trust that when I get the chance I’m going to take it. I’ve got to be patient and keep working on the training ground, then I’ll see where it takes me.
